New coffee shop on a mission opening in Murray Hill

Cup of Jōb is opening its second brick-and-mortar location.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Lifework Leadership is launching its second brick-and-mortar coffee shop location.

The new Cup of Jōb Community Café will open its doors to the public this weekend in Murray Hill. The Christian nonprofit coffee house will focus on helping employ women who have come out of sexually abusive environments. It plans to partner with three local organizations: Rethreaded, Hadassah’s Hope and Girls of Virtue.

“Lifework, the mother organization to all this, you know, our motto is transforming leaders to transform a city. And so, thinking of a way that we could come up with a business that would help people and create a community environment. And what does that better than coffee,” Tammie McClafferty, CEO of Lifework Leadership First Coast, said. “I feel like it's been a labor of love for the last several months. And so, to finally get the doors open and let the public come in, you know, we're really excited.”

This weekend also marks five years since Cup of Jōb opened its first location in Jacksonville Beach on 1st Avenue North.

“We poured our love into the Cup of Jōb café when we started it in July of 2019, focusing on providing our customers with quality coffee in a community setting. As a nonprofit, the beach location was our first attempt at a 'redemptive entrepreneurial' enterprise where we focused on job placement for some of the homeless individuals surrounding the beach,” McClafferty said. “Definitely the success of this has helped us grow the nonprofit.”

The grand opening will take place Sunday in the new location from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at 934 Edgewood Avenue South. It’s located next to the Murray Hill Theater.
