MOSH has been located in Jacksonville's Southbank for more than 50 years. The CEO said it's time expand.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Plans to relocate the Museum of History & Science from the Southbank to the Northbank are on track, according to Al Dove, MOSH's CEO. The building itself, near the Friendship Fountain, has been located in the Southbank for more than 50 years. Dove said it was time for the museum to expand just like Jacksonville's population. First Coast News asked Dr. Dove how soon should the public expect a groundbreaking event for the new museum. He replied by the end of 2025. MOSH's CEO said they close to achieving their $40 Million dollar goal by June.

Dove could not give a specific number of how much was raised so far. At last check, First Coast News reported they raised more than $36 million dollars. However, Dr. Dove said the MOSH received a seven-figure gift, driving them closer to meet their financial deadline. To Dr. Dove, he described the transition as slow. While they are raising funds and designing the new museum, they are also coordinating programs and events at the old location.

"Jacksonville has outgrown it [the MOSH]. To be frank this the city has tripled in population in that time," Dr. Dove said. "The city has the the museum has stayed the same size. And so it's it's definitely been outgrown, you need a newer bigger museum that's going to serve the needs of an ever expanding Jacksonville."

Dove said the MOSH is always looking for donors to contribute to museum's relocation. It would be included in Jacksonville's sports & entertainment district.
