JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Judge Russell Healey held a hearing Tuesday morning prior to the actual trial to determine if John Abuso was a qualified expert witness.
Abuso is a licensed marriage and family therapist and he also has a doctorate in ministry. He runs a family therapy group in Palm Beach Gardens.
According to our news partner, Florida Times-Union, Abuso would have testified to Dunn's state of mind after the shooting and that's why he did not call the police and why he drove to his hotel, then home.
Abuso said he believes that Dunn suffers from acute stress syndrome and that his reaction after the shooting was focused on dealing with his fiance', Rhonda Rouer, who he said was hysterical during the time of the incident.
According do Abuso, Dunn was not trying to get away, he was actually planning on turning himself in. However, State Attorney Angela Corey, did not agree with Abuso's statements.
Corey argued that Dunn did not show any signs of turning himself in to the police until he knew the police were looking for him.
Abuso explained to the court that he has counseled about three people in situations similar to this case but he has never testified in situations like the Dunn trial.
