JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The parents of Jordan Davis, Lucia McBath and Ron Davis, addressed the media shortly after the verdict was read in the trial of Michael Dunn.
The jury was unable to reach a verdict on the first-degree murder count, but returned a guilty verdict on three counts of attempted second degree murder and one count of shooting or throwing deadly missiles.
McBath was teary-eyed as she addressed the media, "It's been a long, long road and we're so happy to have just a little bit of closure."
She also said she would pray for Dunn and has asked her family to pray for him as well.
"It's sad for Mr. Dunn that he will live the rest of his life in that sense of torment," McBath said.
McBath and Davis have become advocates against gun violence in the wake of their son's death. Davis thanked the supporters of him and his family when he took the podium.
"We don't accept a law that will allow collateral damage to our family members," Davis said.
Davis said he wanted the law to protect Jordan the way he protected him.
Of Dunn, Davis said, "So he's gonna learn that he must be remorseful for the killing of my son, that it's not just another day at the office. My son will never be just another day at the office."
Davis ended his remarks with a message of love.
"We don't care about being stoic because we have love in our hearts and we want you to all to love and have love in your hearts and I thank you for coming here today."
Davis and McBath will be celebrating what would have been their son's 19th birthday on Sunday.
