ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — St. Johns County officials issued a mandatory evacuation order for some residents who are expected to be heavily impacted by incoming major Hurricane Milton.
Officials said during a press conference Tuesday afternoon that an evacuation order for health care facilities in Zones A, along coastal and river areas, B and F, only the part south of State Road 206, will go into effect at 2 p.m. Tuesday. These orders were issued ahead of residents to ensure patients continue to receive care.
For residents, a mandatory evacuation order will go into effect Wednesday at 8 a.m. for all of Zone A and B and only the part south of State Road 206 of Zone F. Officials said this evacuation also applies to any residents living in boats, mobile homes, RVs and anyone living in low-lying areas.
This includes the entire City of St. Augustine.

Officials said while evacuation orders don't begin until Wednesday morning, they are urging residents to get prepared and leave early to avoid delays.
In response to the evacuation, the following three shelters will open Wednesday at 8 a.m.
- Freedom Crossing Academy: 1365 Shetland Drive (Special and medical needs shelter)
- South Woods Elementary School: 4750 State Road 206 W. (Pet-friendly shelter)
- Pedro Menendez High School: 600 State Road 206 W. (General population)
Residents who require transportation assistance to a storm shelter should call the Emergency Management Citizen Information Hotline at 904-824-5550, and transportation will be provided for those in need.
Residents are asked to bring supplies to shelters. Officials recommend bringing the following supplies:
- Bedding, including sleeping bags, air mattresses, pillows, sheets and blankets.
- Five-day supply of water, non-perishable food
- At least a five-day supply of medication, insulin and a cooler if needed
- Extra clothing, eyeglasses
- Flashlights, extra batteries
- Personal identification, important papers
- Personal grooming, hygiene items, feminine supplies
- Diapers
"For the safety of your family and our responders, please follow evacuation orders," said St. Johns County Emergency Management Director Joe Giammanco.
