JSO: Man dead after he 'sideswiped' another vehicle, hit tree on Jacksonville's Westside

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says the man in his 70s, experienced a medical episode prior to the crash.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is dead Monday morning after police say he "sideswiped" another vehicle before hitting a tree on Jacksonville's Westside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JSO Sergeant Napoli says at approximately 8:30 a.m., the man in his 70s was traveling southbound in a black Toyota on Herschel Street, approaching San Juan Avenue, when he sideswiped another vehicle after experiencing a "medical episode."

Police say the vehicle continued moving until it hit a tree.

Napoli says after the crash occurred, the man and a passenger of the Toyota were taken to a local hospital, as the man was pronounced dead. The passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.

The crash marked as the 11th traffic fatality in Duval County this year, according to JSO.
