Man dead after crashing into car, tree in mobile home park on Jacksonville's Westside

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says there's a 'possibility' that the man suffered a medical episode prior to the crash.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man in his mid-40s died Wednesday morning after he crashed into a car and tree in a mobile home park on Jacksonville's Westside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JSO's Sergeant Hungerford says the crash happened at approximately 3:20 a.m. at 'Pine Breeze Mobile Home Park,' located at 9842 103rd Street.

Hungerford says the man was in a black 4-door sedan and was traveling southbound in the park when he "failed to negotiate a T-intersection," thus causing the crash. The man was the only occupant of the vehicle and no one was in the car that he hit, according to police.

The man was taken a local hospital by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, and is where he was pronounced dead, according to Hungerford.

This crash marks the 18th traffic fatality in Duval County this year, Hungerford told First Coast News, as he also says there's a possibility that the crash happened as a result of the man suffering from a medical episode.

"That's one of the possibilities," Hungerford said. "There's no explanation that I have, it's such a short throw from the entrance to the location of the crash, and there's not a terrible amount of significant damage through the crash."

Hungerford went on to say that the Medical Examiner's report will determine if the man was impaired at the time of the crash.
