JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Brandon Holcomb was just a few weeks away from turning 38.
Instead of celebrating his life, his family spent time Saturday going door-to-door with MAD DADS, reminding homeowners to inform authorities if they saw something on Sept. 26. To Ericka Kohn, Holcomb is her oldest son.
"I had Brandon when I was 13 years old," Kohn said.
This year is the first of many without her son, starting with his birthday. On Sept. 26, Jacksonville police officers were called to a neighborhood on Eaverson Street near downtown. Holcomb was found with multiple gunshot wounds.
Kohn showed First Coast News the exact spot where he was killed. There were a few bullet holes on a home.
"We just gonna go day by day until we find out who killed my child," Kohn said while canvassing the neighborhood.
Alongside Kohn, her family and MAD DADS were a few Jacksonville mothers who also lost their sons to gun violence. Such as Yvonne Fields, the mother of Rashaud Fields, who was killed shortly after graduating from Raines High School. The mothers showed up in solidarity. Another mother included Pamela Williams, Holcomb's cousin.
"I just wish this killing would stop," Williams said. "It's just too many people losing their lives over nothing. I just wish that it'll get back to the old days."
But Kohn said she wouldn't rest until her family gets justice for Holcomb.
"What's motivating me the most is I still got life and I'm gonna work every day for my child. I'm gonna knock door to door. I'm gonna go where I need to go at. I'm not gonna stop fighting until justice is brought home to my family. We deserve it," Kohn said.
Kohn mentioned her family set up a $10,000 reward for information that can lead to an arrest. Anyone can also reach out to First Coast Crime Stoppers and remain anonymous.
