JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — One of the biggest holiday displays in Jacksonville, Luminaria, kicked off in the Riverside area Sunday night.
An assembly line of volunteers made last-minute preparations for the spectacle that's been dazzling the neighborhood for 34 years.
Bags, sand and candles were carefully placed and ready for the night's celebration.
More than 20,000 kits were made with the help of an area non-profit called Pine Castle, supporting adults with developmental disabilities.
Riverside Avondale Preservation put on the event, incorporating areas like Memorial Park
Tim Burleigh, president-elect of the Memorial Park Association, said 2018 has brought the best turnout.
"It's very gratifying. We're always thrilled to see how much they love this park,” Burleigh said. “People come from all over the city."
