ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A fire at the largest hotel in St. Johns County prompted evacuations Saturday morning, according to St. Johns County Fire Rescue.
Officials said crews responded to an electrical fire at the Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort & Spa in Ponte Vedra Beach after a call at 4:15 a.m.
The fire prompted evacuations after the fire broke out in the main hotel's mechanical room. Officials said the evacuation was a precaution, and the fire was "quickly extinguished."
One person was treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation, according to fire rescue.
A hotel official told First Coast News that the fire was in a non-guest area of the hotel, with the spa, guest villas and Cabana Beach Club not impacted.
The fire caused some power outages in the main building. Officials said around 5:15 p.m. that the hotel was almost back to being fully operational.
"The safety of our guests and employees is always our top priority, and we are grateful to the fire department for their response," a Sawgrass official told First Coast News.
