LAKE CITY, Fla. – The Lake City Police Department has added another tool to their crime fighting arsenal.

Lake City Police launched the My Police Department or MyPD app Tuesday as a new tool to communicate and engage with residents in the city, according to a release from the LCPD. The MyPD app has the ability to provide notifications and information to app users regarding events, crimes and wanted persons. App users can also access a number of features including department contacts, feedback and tip forms. Users will also have access information from FEMA, the National Weather Service and the National Terror Advisory System, the release detailed.

The MyPD app provides users with links to information about wanted persons, sex offenders and jail info on those recently arrested. MyPD also allows the Lake City Police Department to solicit help from the public in ongoing investigations or crimes where the user can submit photos, GPS data and remain fully anonymous in their submission.

"Our MyPD app is a great addition to the agency," said Chief Argatha Gilmore. "We can push out notifications and alerts to the public and the public has a variety of ways to contact us and give feedback easily from a smartphone or tablet. With being only the 4th agency in the State of Florida to utilize this app, it shows we are striving to stay on the cutting edge of technology in our crime fighting efforts. I know our citizens will find it a useful tool to stay connected with this agency."

MyPD app can be downloaded through iTunes or Google Play.

The LCPD also reminds app users that 911 continues to be the appropriate method to report emergency situations and request emergency response.
