JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Dogpark and bar Kanine Social is expanding to Gate Parkway as part of The Block, a 2.5-acre space near the entrance of Southside Quarter.
The space will be designed with safe places for pets and children. It includes a stage, an interactive playground, a 30-foot video wall and a 10,000-square-foot pavilion.
Owner Daniel Moffatt said construction will begin early next year and he targets completion by the fourth quarter of 2024.
Moffatt said the vision of Kanine Social morphed as his family has grown the past few years. The Block, consisting of 10,000 square feet of dog park area and 5,000 square feet for daycare services, is a place where people can get off their phones and talk to other people, he said.
"That’s changed into where do we go with kids, where they can go and be safe, but we can eat, drink and do all the things we normally do," Moffatt said.
Kanine Social's first location is in Brooklyn at 580 College St., opening in 2018. It includes dog daycare services. The Covid-19 Pandemic put expansion plans on hold, he said.
"We refocused on what people wanted: outdoor gathering spaces," he said.
The Block will include space for eight food vendors and an outdoor food hall.
"It’s an expansion that gives a wider demographic of people a chance to enjoy the facility," Moffatt said.
