GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A 4-year-old girl died and two others were hurt after being hit by a pickup truck in the Mall of Georgia's parking lot on Sunday, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department.
Officers responded after 4 p.m. to reports of a person being hit by a vehicle at the Mall of Georgia's parking lot in front of Dick's Sporting Goods and the Von Maur department store.
Investigators believe three people: a 4-year-old girl, a 7-year-old girl and a 31-year-old man, were crossing the road when the 18-year-old driver of a 2004 White Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was turning left and hit them.
The 4-year-old girl was taken to Children's Hospital of Atlanta-Egleston, where she died because of her injuries. Authorities later identified her as 4-year-old Abigail Hernandez.
The 7-year-old girl and 31-year-old man were also taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, the police department said.
The white pickup truck was impounded at the Gwinnett County Police Department headquarters for further investigation. Authorities are still working to determine the cause of the crash.
Abigail's family has since set up an online fundraiser after the tragic accident.
"Our sweet little Abby girl passed away. She fought her best to stay but ultimately God called her home. Unimaginable is the only word I have to describe this," her loved ones wrote.
