A jury found no negligence on the part of three companies being sued by the family of a man who was fatally shot outside of Blind Rabbit in 2015.
David Rowe, 20, was shot twice in the head while taking out the trash, police said. Two men were sentenced respectively to 10 and 20 years in prison for his murder.
Rowe's family was seeking more than $15,000 in damages for negligence and emotional distress in the civil lawsuit.
Rowe's family said his death could have been prevented by Florida corporations 901 King Street, LLC, Accubuild Development Inc., and Accubuild Construction Corporation Inc., who were each involved in the ownership and development of the surrounding area.
The family alleges numerous incidents of criminal activity had occurred near the restaurant and that those incidents should have prompted the corporations to provide better security measures such as surveillance cameras and better lighting prior to Rowe's death.
