SWITZERLAND, Fla. -- A deadly motorcycle crash involving corrections officer and a van shut down traffic to State Road 13 in Switzerland Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said the victim was Correctional Officer Roger Highcove, Jr. Highcove had been employed with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office since May of 2014 and was the son of Police Lieutenant Roger Highcove.
"Sheriff John Rutherford and the entire JSO family wish to express our deepest condolences to the Highcove family, Roger's many friends, and we hold them in our prayers," JSO said in a statement.
According to St. Johns County Fire Rescue, bystanders found Highcove Jr. unresponsive and not breathing in the 1500 block of SR 13 North. The unidentified rider was taken to Memorial Emergency Center in Julington Creek with life-threatening injuries.
