JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 25-year-old man was arrested after he left a Florida Times-Union reporter a voicemail threatening to plant bombs at an upcoming meeting to discuss expanding the city of Jacksonville's Human Rights Ordinance, authorities said.
Benjamin Harris Manses, 25, of Jacksonville faces a second degree felony charge of threatening to place a destructive device, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
Manses was upset about the city holding meetings to discuss the Human Rights Ordinance to cover the LGBT community, police said, and about 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19 he left a voicemail for a Florida Times-Union reporter.
In the voicemail, Manses allegedly said he would plant bombs at Edward Waters College to prevent the meeting at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Dec. 3.
According to the arrest report, Manses stated the bombs would "kill all the LGBT *******... I recommend that you ******* just not show up, because if you do you're going to die. This is a ****** bomb threat."
The next day, Manses was booked into the Duval County Jail and is being held on a $101,000 bond, according to jail records.
