JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is investigating after a woman was killed in a single-car crash in North Jacksonville Friday night.
JSO said the crash happened near the intersection of Starratt Road and New Berlin Road around 7:30 p.m.
Witnesses told police they observed a Honda Civic swerving in the road in a "severe" manner while traveling south on Starratt Road towards New Berlin Road.
JSO said the driver failed to negotiate a turn and ended up hitting a utility pole head-on.
Due to the impact of the crash, the top portion of the utility pole snapped and caused power outages in the area, police said.
The driver was the only person in the car and was identified as a woman in her mid-20s. She was transported to a local hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.
At this time, Traffic Homicide units are on scene investigating.
JSO said this is the 69th death from a crash in Jacksonville this year.
