JSO inmate dies after complications following scheduled medical procedure

Theroux was serving a 9-month sentence at the Montgomery Correctional Center in northern Jacksonville for hit-and-run and DUI charges.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — An inmate of the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office died Thursday morning after complications he experienced after a scheduled procedure for a longtime illness, the sheriff's office said.

JSO said Robert Theroux, 65, was transported Thursday morning to a treatment center for a scheduled appointment. After the procedure, JSO said Theroux began experiencing complications and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Shortly after arriving at the hospital, Theroux was pronounced dead.

Due to his longtime illness and other medical issues, Theroux had been transported to off-site medical facilities on multiple occasions without incidences, JSO said.

Theroux was serving a 9-month sentence at the Montgomery Correctional Center in northern Jacksonville for hit-and-run and DUI charges.

Theroux's death is being investigated by JSO's cold case unit and the medical examiner's office.
