JSO: Man dead after being 'crushed' by vehicle in crash in Jacksonville neighborhood

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office said Thursday another man who was in the vehicle, a red Ford pickup truck, was hospitalized and is stable.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A crash Thursday morning in a Jacksonville neighborhood on the city's Westside, left one man dead and another man hospitalized, according to the sheriff's office.

JSO's Sergeant Hungerford told First Coast News a call about the crash came into the sheriff's office at 3:57 a.m. He said it happened in the 12000 block of Pinebrook Drive South, as a red Ford pickup truck was traveling westbound on the road when it "left the roadway, jumped over a culvert, ran through a ditch, rolled over a fence, [and] into a tree."

"One occupant was partially ejected and crushed by the vehicle, and a second occupant was transported to the hospital, and that person is in stable condition," Hungerford said.

JSO said the two men are in their late-20s.

"We're still working on who was who," said Hungerford. "We believe that the driver is the deceased."

Hungerford added that the sheriff's office does not yet know whether if the crash was alcohol-related or not; the sergeant said an autopsy will determine that and results from it will come back "within 30 days, maybe up to 60 days."

This crash marked as the 105th traffic fatality in Duval County this year, according to Hungerford.
