House on Jacksonville's Southside damaged after lightning strikes it, causing fire

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department says lightning struck a home on Alexis Forest Drive Wednesday morning, causing it to be engulfed in flames.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As the First Coast deals with downpours for the majority of Wednesday, a lightning strike caused a house on Jacksonville's Southside to catch fire, the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) told First Coast News.

JFRD says lightning struck a home on Alexis Forest Drive around 6:30 a.m. A woman and two children escaped without injuries.

The home is a total loss, according to JFRD.

Pictures show the home's broken windows, charred roof and garage severely damaged; see below.
