JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department firefighter has been reassigned to a desk job after registering a blood alcohol content of .374 and .383 — roughly more than four times the legal limit.
Mariah Carter, 31, was charged with DUI and resisting an officer without violence, both misdemeanors.
According to a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office arrest report, Carter was driving on Interstate-95 Southbound near Lem Turner Road around 2:30 p.m. Saturday. An officer at the scene said Carter appeared "confused and disoriented" and could not recall how she arrived on the side of the interstate.
Officers noted slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and an open container in the passenger seat, the report said.
The report said Carter became irate during the sobriety exercises and when she was placed in the back of a patrol vehicle, she kicked an officer on her utility belt.
The legal limit is .08.
