2 JEA workers injured while fixing electrical equipment at UNF campus

A spokesperson with JEA said one worker has been treated and released from the hospital, while the other is being evaluated.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Two JEA workers were hospitalized Tuesday after working on a power outage at the University of North Florida's campus, according to a spokesperson with the utility.

The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department told First Coast News the workers, both men, suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the incident, which occurred around 11:30 a.m.

According to JEA, the workers were shocked while working on a piece of equipment that failed on the circuit near UNF and Alumni drives. However, the utility said the incident is under investigation.

The spokesperson with JEA said one worker has been treated and released, while the other is being evaluated.

A UNF spokesperson said most of the campus was without power at one point.

UNF shared with First Coast News the following statement regarding the incident:

"On behalf of the UNF community, we send our support and well wishes for quick recovery of the two JEA workers who were injured on campus today."
