JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The JAXPORT's U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Chief's Report for the dredging project was approved Wednesday, according to press release from the office of Corrine Brown.
The obstacle now faced to complete the deepening project is receiving the funding needed.
Corrine Brown said, "I'm confident that working together with all involved partners, as well as Congressman Crenshaw and the other Members of the North Florida delegation, we can secure the necessary federal funds to move this project to completion."
The port with the deeper draft would bring an estimated 90,000 jobs to the area with one shipping company, the release said.
"This will economically change Jacksonville into a major port competing with New York to receive the big ships from Asia through an expanded Panama Canal," said Senator Bill Nelson.
