JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- No trouble at Jax Beach this Memorial Day weekend – at least that's what law enforcement officials are aiming for after last year's brawl caught on camera.
On Saturday, officials expect people to flood the beaches for Memorial Day weekend – and Jax Beach Police say this weekend there will be a significant police presence.
Jax Beach Police are gearing up for what will be a busy holiday weekend one year after a fight involving a crowd of at least 100 broke out at the beach last Memorial Day.
"That's why I came out with more than one person this time, that's why I haven't been out here ever since," Brianna Edmond said.
Edmond lives at the beach and loves soaking some sun, but she had her concerns about coming to the beach for Memorial Day weekend. Jax Beach Police say there shouldn't be any problems this year with an obvious police presence of officers on foot, on ATVs, segways and in marked and un-marked vehicles.
But for tourists like Trent Savage from Tallahassee who may not be familiar with the brawl, it will just be a regular weekend on the beach.
"Soaking up the sun, playing with the kids, building sandcastles," Savage said.
Police are advising people to expect large crowds and be patient with traffic delays. Other than that – enjoy some fun in the sun and have a safe holiday.
Jax Beach Police did not want to disclose how many officers will be working this weekend for security reasons. Jax Beach police will also have some help from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office will be helping Jax Beach Police out with security.
