JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Another local legend is leaving us. Jacksonville's self-proclaimed "air-conditioned Eden" is closing.
The Secret Tiki Temple is closing, owners announced Friday. And most of us probably never got a table.
The adjoining Chinese restaurant, Pagoda, will also close.
Pagoda has been part of Jacksonville's restaurant scene for 49 years. It was previously located in Jacksonville Beach.
The restaurant had recently reopened after renovations.
Hundreds of social media users bid farewell to Secret Tiki Temple on Facebook, remembering the good times. "Yet another truly unique and special restaurant closes in Jax," one user wrote. "I will remember the Tiki Temple forever!" wrote another.
"I don't believe in goodbyes. There's no way this is true," insisted one commentor. It seems like a done deal, with the business already listed as closed online and on its website, but one can hope.
