JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is excited to announce the arrival of its newest resident, Kande, a Southern White Rhino.
"Kande will be a terrific addition to our African Veldt animal experience," said Dan Maloney, deputy director of conservation and education. "White rhinos are fairly sociable and she's already showing great interest in Gabby and Archie, the adult Rhinos. We look forward to her spending many enjoyable years with us."
The two-year-old female arrived in late April from Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo, where she was born. She weighs 1900 pounds and is approximately four feet tall.
