Adventure Landing is unveiling a $1 million attraction at its Shipwreck Island Waterpark when the park opens for the 2018 summer tourist season.

It is the first major addition to the waterpark since 2009, said Natalie Dunlap, the company’s vice president of marketing. The last project added was “The Undertow,” which cost about $850,000.

The park, located on Beach Blvd. in Jacksonville Beach, will feature a pirate-themed play place that includes five new slides. The new play complex is intended for children who are over 42 inches tall, Dunlap said.

Included in the new play complex will be an enclosed slide with 360-degree loops, a giant bucket that dumps water on people and a slide racer, among other features.

“There will simply be more for kids to do and just in time for our spring and summer season,” said Hank Woodburn, Adventure Landing’s owner, in a release.

The park is expected to open Saturday, March 17 and will begin its full, seven-day per week operating hours on June 1, according to its website.
