Jacksonville Sheriff's Office issues warning about first day of school photos

Officials say "less is more" when joining in on the first day of school picture trend.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — When sharing that back-to-school picture of your child on social media this school year, law enforcement officials are warning about how much information you include in the post.

The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says "less is more" when joining in on the first day of school picture trend.

Many parents take a photograph of their child holding a poster with information like their interests, teacher, grade and more. JSO says sharing too much can expose your child to "those with ill intentions."

The sheriff's office posted a side-by-side of what not to do and what they deem safe to do for these pictures.

The picture on the left is what JSO says you should avoid, while the one on the right, which omits the child's age, school, teacher's name, interest and grade is safer.
