JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The chairman of the Duval Democratic Party and the president of Jacksonville Young Republicans are weighing in after Kamala Harris announced Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her pick for vice president.
"I’m really excited about putting both of their faces in our window," said Duval Dems Chairman Daniel Henry. "Not only is he [Walz] a Midwestern governor but he’s a veteran which is critically important for communities like Jacksonville with a huge veteran population of veterans."
Henry expressed his support for Harris and Walz. "I think that is a ticket that shows not only the beautiful mosaic of what this country looks like but the diversity of what can bring us together," he added.
"I think it’s very interesting that the vice president has selected Tim Walz as the running mate. The Democratic voters will make their decision on who they want later this month in Chicago," said John Scott, the president of Jacksonville Young Republicans.
Scott said Walz's work will be front and center, including his response to the 2020 George Floyd protests in Minneapolis.
"You’re gonna see Tim Walz's record on display and what happened in Minneapolis and what happened in Minnesota. You’re gonna see all that on display and I think there’s a stark difference," said Scott.
Scott said his party is still standing strong.
"Never before in my opinion have I seen a more unified Republican party behind a ticket," said Scott, "I want to hear discussions between the two sides about their visions on addressing the economy, securing the border, making sure we’re respected around the world again."
The November Presidential Election is just 89 days away.
