JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is looking for a missing 57-year-old man last seen in the Brentwood area on Oct. 16.
JSO says on Oct. 16, an officer met with Demetrius Woods-Clark, 36, at a residence at 106 West 21st St. as he told police that he and his friend, Henry Phillips, had been staying in a hotel on the city's Westside for the last two months and that two days prior, the two had just moved into the residence with his brother. Clark further told police that the two had been sleeping on couches in the living room at the residence the last two nights, the missing person report states.
Next, the report states that around 2 a.m. on the day of, Clark saw Phillips get up from a couch and use the bathroom, which is the last time Clark saw Phillips. Clark woke up around 5 a.m. to get a drink of water and noticed that Phillips wasn't there anymore, the report states.
Clark told JSO that he believed Phillips was nearby because Clark's vehicle was still there, as the report states that Clark waited 16-17 hours to call police because he thought Phillips would come back and thought you had to wait 24 hours to report a missing person. Clark advised that if Phillips stops taking his medication, "he will start to have short term memory loss within a couple weeks to a couple months," the report states.
After officers searched the inside and outside of the residence Phillips went missing from, checked local hospitals, mental health facilities, the Duval County Jail, the JTA bus station and looked around for surveillance video, efforts to find Phillips have been unsuccessful, JSO says. Police say they also checked the hotel Phillips and Clark had been staying at as well as Phillips' old address he lived at for 20 years, 3201 Dignan St.
Phillips is described as standing 5 feet and 10 inches tall, weighs 140 pounds, has an afro and beard with gray and black hair and was wearing a blue and white striped shirt, blue pants and lime green slides at the time of his disappearance, the report reveals.
Anyone with information on Phillips' whereabouts is asked to call JSO's non-emergency number at 904-630-0500.
