JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man was killed early Wednesday morning after he was struck by a car on a dark road, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.
At approximately 12:38 am, a man was walking on the roadway pushing a moped on Garden Street, JSO said. The victim is a man in his 60s.
The agency said Garden Street is dark with no sidewalks.
The driver of a sedan was heading eastbound on Garden Street and did not see the pedestrian, JSO said. After striking the man, the driver called 911. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department.
The death is the 84th traffic death and the 22nd pedestrian fatality in Duval County in 2024.
Garden Street was open in both directions after the crash, police said.
