JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Travelers will soon be able to take non-stop flights from Jacksonville to Toronto.
Aviation officials are expecting record breaking passenger traffic telling First Coast News the Jacksonville International Airport is growing and the airline, Air Canada, is providing the non-stop flights.
The last time Jacksonville had non-stop flights to Canada was from 2016 to 2019. JIA officials said the Air Canada took a five year hiatus.
The Jacksonville Aviation Authority said providing non-stop flights helps connect the local business community with businesses in Canada. Plus, Jags fans can fly to Toronto and connect flights to countries in Europe. Officials said they're working on securing non-stop flights to the United Kingdom.
Greg Willis, JAA, said they're meeting with airlines that can serve their market. He said officials are pitching Jacksonville and why they should bring non-stop services to their airport.
"Whenever we have the business community or specific businesses that need those nonstop flights, if they contact us and communicate their need, we can then communicate that to the airlines and it just helps make our case that much stronger," Willis said.
Right now, flights to Canada can be booked. However, the first flight won't take off until May 22, 2025.
