JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Thanksgiving is just days away and we know many of you are preparing to travel this holiday week.
According to the TSA, the busiest travel days of the year are Tuesday and Wednesday leading up to thanksgiving and the Sunday after.
Jenna Zell and her family of four landed monday afternoon at Jacksonville International Airport.
After spending their day traveling from Boston, Massachusetts, the mom of two says they flew out today to avoid the holiday hustle and bustle in the airports
“We’re coming to visit my dad we’re doing Thanksgiving there,” said Zell, “we’d figure we’d leave a little bit earlier because we have the kids and the dog so it was a lot to travel with and we didn't want to get stuck in a lot of traffic.”
AAA is expecting nearly 80 million people to travel this Thanksgiving week…5.8 million are expected to take to the skies to get to their destination.
Tuesday and Wednesday are projected to be the busiest travel days this week.
Jacksonville International Airport officials recommend travelers arrive two hours prior to their departure time to find parking, check bags and navigate through security.
"I arrived because we want to make sure we're on time with everything. With it being the holidays we want to make sure we're ahead of the game,” said Eliah Amos, who's flying to Cincinnati for Thanksgiving.
Officials are also expecting Sunday and Monday to be busy travel days as people return from their thanksgiving trips. Which is why the Zell family says they will be heading back home to Boston on Friday.
“We’ll definitely spend Thanksgiving here then get back to prepare for school next week for the kids,” said Zell.
Airport officials say they are expecting on-site parking to fill up.If you have anyone to drop you off or if you can uber or taxi to the airport that is highly recommended.
Travelers can find real time parking availability on the airport’s website flyjax.com
