Fancy your chances? It's time for the Kingfish Tournament's return to the First Coast

One of the biggest fishing tournaments of the year is back on the First Coast, and you have a chance to reel in the grand prize, a brand new boat!

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The annual Kingfish fishing tournament kicks off this weekend with the beach tournament.

More than 500 fishermen from Fernandina Beach to St. Augustine are expected to go head to head.

The tournament has been a tradition on the first coast for more than 40 years and goes on for the next week.

No matter how old or skilled you are there is a contest for you as with Regardless Fishing Charter boat captain Jeremy Alvarez says he’s been competing in this since he was a child.

“King fishing is one of our best targeted fish to go for during the summer time so it’s just you know started way before I did so I just have enjoyed it and I fish some of the tournaments with my sons now,” explained Alvarez.

Adding the Kingfish Tournament is a great way to train the next generation of fishermen and women.

“Promote our sport that we love so much, and our coastline and at the end of the day, there are ways where you can have a really tasty dinner after sharing that with them,” Alvarez added.

Friday is the only day open for red snapper, but to see the full schedule of activities for the kingfish fishing tournament click here.
