'It's the best day of my life': Local couple weds at Welcome to Rockville

A rock festival might not be the most conventional choice for a wedding venue, but there's no better place for their metal matrimony for Jim Steelman and Michelle Carlisle.

A rock festival might not be the most conventional choice for a wedding venue, but there's no better place for their metal matrimony for Jim Steelman and Michelle Carlisle.

The aisle is a dense crowd and the processional is the crunching sound of electric guitars but the rock and roll wedding is absolutely perfect for Carlisle.

She practically had to yell the words "I do" over the place and guitar solos, but the two sounds together our music to the ears of the groom.

"I can barely keep myself from screaming the whole time," Steelman said. "It's the best day of my life."

The two tied the knot Friday at the Welcome to Rockville music festival in Jacksonville, where even the organizers were surprised.

"I think that's incredible," said Lindsey Medina, head of marketing. "For us, these festivals are a really really special moment in time for all of us so I love that other fans are viewing it the same way."

The three-day festival features 50 bands including Stone Temple Pilots, Ozzy Osbourne and is capped off Sunday night by the Foo Fighters and Billy Idol, which begged the question why not wait for "White Wedding" to take the vows.

"Because I love that man so much," Carlisle said. "We had to do it today right now, has to get over and done to have the whole weekend to do our honeymoon?"

It's one of the most unusual honeymoons you'll ever see, but they wouldn't have it any other way.

"What better way to celebrate, to celebrate us, other than the fact it is us," Steelman said.
