Soon, crews will start building "Concourse B," a project JIA officials said was in the making for 16 years; it includes: six new gates, a third parking garage that is walking distance of the terminal and more local restaurants and businesses.

JAA said the project will be constructed over "three major phases" and will make the airport more spacious.

Here's what will take place during each phase of construction for the project, according to a news release:

  • Phase One: The security checkpoint expansion which was completed in Fall 2023
  • Phase Two: The taxiway whiskey and ramp construction and the planning, design, construction and relocation of airfield equipment. The last phase is the construction of the 190,000-square-foot Concourse B which features six additional gates to grow airline operations, as well as new restaurants and amenities for passengers.
  • Phase Three: Construction of the 190,000-square-foot Concourse B

Construction is currently underway, as the project is supposed to be complete sometime in December 2026, the release states.
