JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --- The family of the Jacksonville teenager killed while playing video games says Malik Warthen didn't deserve to die.
The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office says the Westside high school senior was shot at a home MaidStone Mill Drive around noon Saturday.
First Coast News spoke to Warthen's siblings, who describe him as quiet and very determined with dreams to become a businessman. Warthen is one of six children with four younger siblings who looked up to him. They tell FCN his nickname was 'Momo.'
His brother Quise Warthen, 15, recalls the last conversation he had with his brother.
"My last words to him was I love you. My last conversation with him...was...it was something about football. He really good at football," said Quise.
"He was quiet, he was cool. He was a good athlete. I don't know. There were a lot of words for him," said Quise.
According to JSO, Saturday Warthen was shot in the head while playing video games at his aunt's house. The investigation reveals the suspect 17-year-old Michael Saddler picked up a gun and pulled the trigger. Quise says he considered Saddler his friend.
"We all used to hang out together. We were cool. He used to come around a lot," said Quise. "I never expected this from him. Definitely not him. Not him."
The suspect has been charged with Manslaughter and Evidence Tampering. The gun was recovered in a backyard near the crime scene.
"I think he was just playing too much and didn't shoot intentionally." said Quise.
