ST. AUGUSTINE BEACH, Fla. — The winner of the 2024 HGTV Dream Home located on Anastasia Island was announced on Wednesday.
Marie Fratta, a 25-year educator from New York, won the HGTV Dream Home 2024 sweepstakes, according to an announcement Wednesday.
HGTV said the fourth-grade teacher was at "a loss for words" after finding out she won the channel's ultimate prize package.
The prize is valued at more than $2.2 million, according to HGTV.
On top of the newly built, multi-million dollar, 3,300 square-foot home in Anastasia Island, Fratta was also awarded an all-new 2024 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan and a $100,000 check.
"This is insane," said Fratta. "I feel like this is a prank."
Fratta was picked out of a 130 million entry pool for the dream house sweepstakes.
The building of the three-bedroom, four-bathroom home prompted pushback from the St. Augustine Planning and Zoning Board after a bulkhead was built without city approval.
The contractor, Coastal Getaway Homes, never got the city's OK for a bulkhead around the house built on a creek in the Pelican Reef neighborhood.
City staff questioned the size of the bulkhead, the house and the bulkhead's proximity to the marsh and the house's width.
It took two months for the City of St. Augustine to come to an agreement with the contractor on April 2.
Entries for HGTV's next sweepstakes end on June 10, offering a $1 million HGTV Smart Home in Atlanta, Georgia, an all-electric Mercedes-Benz SUV and $150,000 cash.
