JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man who said he "couldn't take it anymore" when he shot and killed his wife in March 2012 was convicted for first-degree murder on Thursday.
A September 2013 trial for Michael Wolfe Morris, 68, ended in a hung jury, according to a release from the State Attorney's Office.
Morris and his wife, 55-year-old Barbara Morris, were arguing at their Jacksonville Beach home and the argument escalated after the two had been drinking.
Barbara Morris reportedly dropped Michael Morris' cell phone in the toilet after trying to record video of him on her cell phone, according to original reports from the Jacksonville Beach Police Department.
After Barbara Morris ran out of the home trying to escape, Michael Morris dragged her back inside and beat her, according to the release from the State Attorney's Office.
Michael Morris then shot Barbara Morris seven times in the head and her upper body. A Jacksonville Beach Police Officer who lived across the street came to the home after hearing screams and gunshots, at which point Morris said he "couldn't take it any more."
Morris faces a mandatory life sentence in prison.
