Mandatory evacuations in Clay County, shelters now open

Zones A and B are under mandatory evacuation as of 3 p.m. Tuesday.

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — Clay County has ordered mandatory evacuations in Zones A and B as of 3 p.m. Tuesday.

Residents in these zones as well as low-lying areas and mobile homes are urged to evacuate until tropical storm warnings have been cancelled.

The county has opened five emergency shelters including a special needs shelters at Lake Asbury Junior High School at 2851 Sandridge Road in Green Cove Springs.

General population shelters are open at the following locations:

  • Clay High School, 2025 FL-16, Green Cove Springs
  • Orange Park High School, 2300 Kingsley Ave., Orange Park (pet friendly)
  • Keystone Heights Junior/Senior High, 900 Orchid Ave., Keystone Heights (pet friendly)
  • Wilkinson Elementary, 4965 Co Rd 218, Middleburg

If you plan on bringing a pet to one of the pet-friendly shelters, registration is not required. But you do need to bring food, water, leashes, pet carriers, a current picture of your pet, litter and a litter box, medications, toys and bedding. Pet owners should make sure their animals have a collar with a name tag and phone number.

Clay County District Schools are closed through Thursday, September 5th.
