Jacksonville holiday light shows prepare for weekend Nor'easter

Deck the Chairs will shut down through the weekend. The holiday light display off Girvin road will continue, weather permitting.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Some popular holiday spots on the First Coast are preparing for the Nor'easter that’s expected to bring strong winds and rain this weekend.

The Blackhawk Bluff Neighborhood Holiday Light Display off Girvin Road will go on, as long as neighbors have power.

Casey Jones and his stepson spent three weekends stringing 50,000 lights on their house. Including big heavy stars from his trees.

“Supposed to have a lot of high winds and several inches of rain is what I heard so you just kind of hope that you put everything up and tie the ropes extra tight and hope for the best,” Jones said.

The Nor'easter could bring 40 -50 mile per hour wind gusts.

In Jacksonville Beach, Deck the Chairs founder, Kurtis Loftus said the holiday exhibit will be closed until Monday.

Loftus and his team spent all day Friday tightening chairs down and making sure everything was in place in preparation for the storm.

He said it was a tough decision given the economic hit the event will take. But it was the necessary one with the weather.

“You know it’s a big impact we talked to our city officials talked to the fire chief talked to the board president we all talked first thing this morning and it seemed like the right thing to do.”

Loftus said he hopes to open again on Tuesday.
