Here are the new rules for allowing dogs on the beach

The policy changed in January, but now residents and visitors have visual confirmation when they hit the sand.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- You may have seen a tweet by the Jacksonville Beach Police Department.

It shows new signs outlining the rules for dogs on the beach. The policy changed in January, but now residents and visitors have visual confirmation when they hit the sand.

Dogs are allowed on the beach at all hours from October 1st to March 31st, but then it changes and dogs are not allowed on the beach during the day from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. for the next 6 months. Dogs must be leashed at all times.

In Neptune Beach, officials rely on Daylight Saving time for their policy. In the summer when we spring forward, dogs are not allowed on the beach during the day from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and in the winter dogs are not allowed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This policy applies 7 days week. Dogs must also be leased at all times.

In Atlantic Beach, the policy is a bit different. There, dogs are allowed at all hours of the day or night all year long. But all dogs must be leashed at all times. The only exception is when both the owner and the dog are in the water. But as soon as you hit dry sand again the leash must go back on.

In St. Johns County, dogs are allowed on all beaches except for Anastasia State Park.
