Burglary suspect killed in crash following pursuit on County Road 209 in Clay County: CCSO

A Green Cove Springs man suspected of burglary drove into the treeline after trying to ram into a deputy and fleeing a traffic stop, police said.

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — A Green Cove Springs man suspected of burglary is dead after a Friday night crash in Clay County, according to the Clay County Sheriff's Office.

Steve Randle Miracle, 33, was traveling south on County Road 209 South near Decoy Road at a high rate of speed was unable to negotiate a left curve in the roadway around 8 p.m., a Florida Highway Patrol report said. 

The sheriff's office said they established probable cause for Miracle's arrest on residential burglary charges. However, prior to initiating a traffic stop, authorities believed Miracle was "under the influence or impaired."

Miracle attempted to flee and tried to ram into a deputy's vehicle, CCSO said in a release.

The FHP report said the truck left the road onto the west shoulder and collided with the tree line on the west shoulder, overturning. 

Miracle was pronounced deceased on scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt, the report said.
