KINGSLAND, Ga. — Former Kingsland police officer Zechariah Presley was sentenced to one year in prison and four years of probation Friday evening during his sentencing hearing.
Presley was found guilty of violating the oath of a public officer in the shooting death of Tony Green, an unarmed African American man. Green fled following a traffic stop.
As part of his sentencing Friday, Pressley must also pay a $1,500 fine, have no contact with Green's family and not be in possession of a firearm.
Pressley was facing charges of voluntary and involuntary manslaughter charges stemming from the traffic stop that ended with the death of 33-year-old Green. He was found not guilty of those charges on Oct. 5.
The verdict came down on the same day the only African American member of the jury was replaced by a white juror after the judge said the juror was sick.
Presley was in pursuit of Green on June 20, 2018, when he fired eight shots. He testified that he was in fear for his life and described rolling on the ground in an altercation with Green just before the shooting all played out.
Protestors gathered on the streets of Kingsland, Georgia after Pressley was found not guilty of voluntary and involuntary manslaughter.
