JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The city of Jacksonville reached an agreement with the University of Florida and the University of Georgia for the teams to play their tradition-steeped game in Jacksonville for at least another four years after the renovation of the city-owned football stadium is complete in 2028.

The teams, which will face off Saturday in the annual rivalry game, will play again in Jacksonville in 2025 and then play in Atlanta and Tampa in the 2026 and 2027 games while a $1.4 billion reconstruction of the stadium takes place.

When the rebuild is finished in time for the 2028 football season, Florida and Georgia will resume playing the game in Jacksonville that season and for the following three years, according to the agreement.

“We are honored to extend the time-honored tradition of the Georgia-Florida rivalry game in Jacksonville for four more years," Mayor Donna Deegan said. "It is the result of many months of close collaboration with our partners at the University of Florida and the University of Georgia."

"There is shared excitement by all parties for the game to return to Jacksonville in the 'Stadium of the Future,' which will be a world-class stadium that meets NFL standards, starting in 2028," she said in the announcement. "We are grateful that this matchup will continue bringing our communities together to celebrate college football and drive economic impact.”
