CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — A student is in custody after Clay County District Schools police found a firearm on the Oakleaf Junior High School campus Wednesday.
School police lifted a lockdown at the school from a red code to a code green that was put in place "out of an abundance of caution" into the situation. Students will follow normal dismissal procedures on Wednesday.
Not many details were given about the student in custody, but police confirmed a firearm was found on campus.
"We will continue to have zero tolerance for this behavior and charges are pending," the Clay County District Schools Police Department said on Facebook.
Police said there is no threat to students or staff at this time, but are encouraging students, staff, and faculty if they ever see anything to tell someone immediately.
"I encourage all parents and guardians to talk to their children about the seriousness of today's events and the importance of speaking up and reporting incidents to staff or law enforcement," school police said.
