DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. — Of the 181 schools in the Duval County School District, 21 received failing grades while 38 received 'A's for the 2014-15 school year, according to a new Florida Department of Education report on the district.
The district received an overall grade of 'B.'
Of all high school students for the '13-'14 school year, 74 percent graduated. This information is the most recent available.
Of the 21 failing schools, 13 were elementary, 6 were middle schools, and 2 were high schools. All but one of the schools had a majority of students from an economically disadvantaged home.

- Valor Academy of Leadership-High School
Grades are based on an amalgam of student scores on the Florida Standards Assessments that replaced the FCAT tests.
The main areas that schools are graded on are English Language, Math and Sciences, according to the report.
Twenty-eight of St. Johns County's 39 schools received 'A' grades. Only one - St. Paul School of Excellence - got an 'F' grade.
Seventeen Clay County schools earned 'A' grades. Just one got an 'F' in the district.
