FHP: Small plane flying from New York to Florida crash lands into lake after 'engine stopped'

The two occupants aboard the plane were not hurt, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. — A single-engine plane crash landed into a Putnam County lake Sunday afternoon after taking off from New York, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The two passengers aboard the plane, a 77-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman both from New York, were not hurt in the crash.

An FHP crash report said the pair were flying from Brookhaven, New York to Winter Haven, Florida when a crash occurred around 4:40 p.m. after the plane's engine stopped working. 

The plane crash landed in Crescent Lake in Crescent City, Florida. Residents in the area at the time of the crash helped the occupants to safety.

The aircraft was a 1979 Beechcraft A36 single-engine, according to FHP.

The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board were notified about the plane crash.

No additional details about the crash were immediately available.
