JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A 31-year-old man is dead following a crash on Interstate-10 eastbound and McDuff Avenue blocked all lanes early Saturday morning.
A 23-year-old man who stopped to help and left his vehicle was also hit by a car and killed, according to FHP. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the sedan, which collided with the concrete barrier wall on the right shoulder, struck the 23-year-old fled on foot, troopers said.
Troopers were dispatched to the crash at 2:06 a.m., according to Florida Highway Patrol. It occurred near mile marker 360, the agency said.
The 31-year-old crash victim was driving an SUV traveling eastbound on I-10 west of McDuff Avenue around 2 a.m., the crash report said.
The report said the SUV failed to maintain its lane, causing the left side of the vehicle to collide into the concrete barrier wall on the left shoulder, which led to the vehicle overturning and striking the wall. The man was pronounced dead on the scene, troopers said.
Approximately five hours later, traffic was still slowed, but open in westbound lanes. Lanes reopened around 10 a.m.
