PONTE VEDRA, Fla.—A teen was struck by a car while riding his bicycle on State Road 210 at the bridge over the Intracoastal Waterway Wednesday evening and later died from his injuries, authorities said.

The Florida Highway Patrol initially identified the bicyclist as 19-year-old Patrick Meier. This has since been stated as misinformation. FHP has released a new report stating that it is Christian Meier, 17, the younger brother of Patrick, who was the victim fatally struck.

After the crash, Christian was taken to Baptist Beaches, where he was pronounced deceased.

According to FHP Master Sergeant Dylan Bryan, FHP received the identification of the victim from St. Johns County authorities. FHP Troopers did not actively confirm the bicyclist's name and they have since spoken to the family who had confirmed the mix-up and the issues will be addressed internally with FHP.
